Makoondi, or drumming on water, is a specialty of the women. Men simply appear to be incapable of mastering the technique to the same degree of pro ciency. The music is made by cupping the hands and pushing down hard on the water, creating air bubbles that the water rushes in to fill, thereby colliding with itself and producing a percussive sound.
