Mafuta We Njuzu literally means whale oil. Although it is hard to find in the history books, the Shona oral history recounts a time when they had peaceful relations with a seafaring European race of people, who some believe were of Celtic origins. One of the things most sacred to these seamen was whale oil, which they shared with the Shona people.

Wanisai is a rhythm about achieving with grace and dignity. The dance that accompanies this rhythm is very strong and contains bold movements that signify clearing the way, yet at the same time the dancers are not to make any sound with their feet - symbolizing grace and balance.
